My Approach to Teaching:
Guitar Teacher Walt Palmer: With my classes, creating an environment where the students can learn but also have fun is very important. I’ve been fortunate enough to have many teachers in my life that helped to instill a passion for music I have in me today and I try to accomplish that with my students as well.
I know how challenging, and sometimes frustrating, the process of learning music can be. I also know that, if you are playing your role, any musician can achieve success in a band setting no matter what their experience level. Music has been the most positive influence in my life and I want everyone to appreciate it the way that I do.
My Education &
I’ve been playing guitar since I was 13 years old. I remember it being difficult at first, after I learned how to play songs like “Come As You Are” by Nirvana and “Take It Easy” by the Eagles, I was hooked and never looked back. I am a huge fan of music. I am always going back and forth from listening to the bands I grew up listening to like: The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Muse, Radiohead, and Incubus, to discovering new music like: Hiatus Kaiyote and Feed Me Jack.
In high school, I joined every Jazz Band, Orchestra and Music Theory Class I could, while playing outside of school in various original and cover bands. Looking back, I’m really grateful to have had the opportunity to gain so much live playing experience while I was honing my skills academically. Being able to take what I’d learned in school and applying it to a real life setting helped me progress much more that I ever would have if I were just playing by myself.
During college, I began teaching guitar lessons part time and really enjoyed it. I graduated from Chestnut Hill College with a Bachelors Degree in Music Education and an Associates Degree in Jazz Guitar. Afterwards, I decided that I gained the most satisfaction from teaching guitar and passing my knowledge on to younger musicians who could benefit from my experience.
