My Approach to Teaching:
Piano Teacher Summer Lusk: When I’m teaching, I prefer to draw from a number of different pedagogical methods and intro-duce a variety of musical styles over time, carefully considering each individual student’s interests, initiative/diligence, and natural ability; I find that this highly-personalized and versatile approach often helps keep students engaged and finding lessons fun, fresh, and exciting. In addition, I like to include music theory, ear training, sight-reading, and singing in lessons — I have found that students who practice and gain further experience with these, become more well-rounded musicians overall.
My Educational &
I earned my Bachelor of Music in Violin Performance from Oberlin Conservatory of Music and my Master of Music in Violin Performance from the University of Colorado—Boulder. I also hold an International Diploma from the National Guild of Piano Teachers [a division of the American College of Musicians]. I have taught violin, piano, music theory, and ear training for over 10+ years; and my performances have taken me across the US, as well as China, Singapore, Poland, Czech Republic, Germany, and Barbados. As a huge advocate of contemporary classical and cross-genre performance, I especially like to collaborate with composers and producers in the local area.
The First Song I learned how to play:
I believe it was “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star.”
The Last Song I downloaded:
“Vibin’ Out with (((O)))” by FKJ (from the album French Kiwi Juice).
